The Heart

You feel it, and then you do something about it.

You notice the person standing slightly outside the circle, and somehow you are beside them before you decided to move. Other people's bad days land in your own body. You cannot read a sad message and simply scroll on.

When someone is struggling, your choices move toward them. You give time, attention and help, often before anyone asks. Kindness is not an idea for you; it is a reflex.

Signs you are The Heart

  • Strangers tell you their life story in queues, and you somehow don't mind.
  • You've cried at an advert and then donated to whatever it was for.
  • You've given away your seat, then your umbrella, then your whole afternoon.
  • You know the name of the cleaner at work, and their kid's name too.
  • You've texted 'home safe?' to someone who isn't your responsibility at all.
  • Your first reaction to bad news about someone you dislike is still 'oh no'.
  • You've paid for a stranger's shopping and felt good about it for a week.

What The Heart would do

At the supermarket till, the stranger ahead of you has their card declined for a small amount.

It is past midnight, you are exhausted, and a friend calls in tears wanting to talk for hours.

A colleague is crying in the stairwell. Your deadline is in thirty minutes.

The price of being The Heart

Feeling everything means you also carry things that were never yours, and some weeks you are tired for reasons you cannot name. Bad news seems to reach you faster than anyone else. And it can be hard to fully enjoy a good moment when you know someone, somewhere, is not having one.

Easy with

The Peacemaker: They keep the room calm while you take care of whoever is struggling in it.

The Explorer: They bring new people into your life, and you make sure every one of them feels welcome.

Sparks with

The Anchor: They say no where you would say yes, and watching them may teach you something about yourself.

The Realist: They want the help to be sensible and you want it to be now, though the best help is often both.

Questions

Is The Heart too sensitive?

Sensitivity is part of what makes a Heart good at noticing people. It only becomes a problem when there is no time to recover from it.

What is the opposite of The Heart?

In SENEKA dilemmas, compassion most often meets Boundaries: protecting your own time and energy instead of stepping in.

Is The Heart a good partner?

Usually a deeply noticing one. Hearts pick up small shifts in mood quickly and act on them, and partners tend to feel that.
